Amberle both absorbed the Bloodfire and bathed the seed of the Ellcrys in it. I liked Sword far better. In Elfstones of Shannara Mr. Brooks comes into his own as a fantasy writer.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book for the second time and actually have a greater appreciation for Mr. Brooks' writing style having attempted to read other authors' initial fantasy books and put them down within a few chapters due to rushed character introductions, plot advancement, and poor description of environment. Tolkein-knockoff or not.I read this book as a young teenager and it's always rated high as one of my favorites, even though I don't read much fantasy any more. There were still echoes of Tolkien’s world present in Elfstones the seven gates of Arborlon remind one of the seven gates of Gondor’s Minus Tirith. Mallenroh captured them and decided to keep the Elfstones for herself, locking up Wil and the rest as prisoners until Wil agreed to give her the stones.Mallenroh's identical twin sister Morag arrived, and the Witch Sisters fought and killed each other. Wil and Amberle went on despite Hebel's warnings, after parting ways with the Rovers. It has a good blend of fantasy adventure themes and military conflict. I rarely reread books. The book is for readers of all ages and I most likely approached the plot differently now that I am nearly 25 years older.
