Motown: The Musical

AMAZING! Travel by comfortable coach and witness your guide bring each UNESCO World Heritage Site to life with commentary. Motown The Musical uncovers the story of the legendary record label that changed music history and created the soundtrack of a generation. A fabulous show, great music and excellent atmosphere.Don't listen to the negative reviews. Motown the Musical tells the story of Berry Gordy, a boxer turned record producer who started with $800 in his pocket, starting a record label which would later see him as one of the leading music producers in the world. Then we got to the part where the Jacksons left Motown, and Jermaine came to tell Berry they were leaving, which made no sense at all because when the Jacksons left, Jermaine remained because he was married to Berry Gordy's daughter Hazel, and he pursued a solo career on the Motown label. We paid £55 a ticket, it was not worth that price especially for a dilapidated theatre in Oxford with an inadequate sound system.A frequent visitor to the theatre and never disappointed.

But if you know your Motown this show will disappoint. The final scene at the 25th Motown anniversary missed out the highlight of that show which was the Jacksons singing some old tracks and the MJ remaining on stage and stealing the show with the moonwalk. They just did their last night in sheffield and in all honesty it was amazing!

Motown The Musical uncovers the story of the legendary record label that changed music history and created the soundtrack of a generation. The first issue was the theatre. Just the right amount of music.

The production's music and lyrics are taken from selections from the Motown catalog. Please. The end was terrific.Really enjoyed watching this musical. None of that to be seen in this show! No mention of Tammi Terrell, Marvin was presented as a solo act from the start of his career. There was WAY too much emphasis on Diana Ross, and all the DR and the Supremes songs were sung too fast and the movements were too animated. The tempo was speeded up. I would say this production is aimed at the same kind of people who enjoy the entertainment in holiday parks and tune into easy listening commercial radio stations. The musical is based on Berry Gordy's autobiography To Be Loved: The Music, the Magic, the Memories of Motown (1994), and on the history of his founding and running of the Motown record label, and his personal and professional relationships with Motown artists such as Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and Michael Jackson. Designed specifically for travelers with limited time in London, this tour allows you to check off a range of southern England's historical attractions in just one day by eliminating the hassle of traveling between each one independently. Once the show started it became clear that this was another low budget production. But for me the biggest issue was the inaccuracy of the story.

Motown the Musical is performed by an eighteen-piece orchestra and comprised of over 50 Motown tracks, including “Dancing in the Street”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “My Girl”.
